Strategic Review of Trading Arm for Corporate Training and Development
Objective
Spirals was commissioned by a trading arm of a local authority. The organisation was providing training and development to other authorities and had just been through a period of change based around a new strategy. Spirals was commissioned to carry out a strategic review to answer the following six questions.
Is the current structure right?
Are the units delivering the required levels of performance, given that the organisation needs to be more outcome focused?
What does the organisation look like from within and are its people clear about where it is going?
Are the senior managers doing what they should be doing?
Is there any spare capacity?
What are the ideas for improvement?
Engagement
The assignment started with project planning to ensure the review covered the six questions. There were a series of 1-2-1 and workshop sessions to enable the senior managers and other key stakeholders to influence the work. Spirals also carried out extensive research and analysis to provide objective information and practical advice.
During the assignment it was clear that some sensitive issues would need to be addressed by the organisation. Spirals provided objective feedback on each of the six questions and made pragmatic recommendations for the organisation.
Result
The review identified a range of strategic issues which enabled the organisation to develop and improve. The structure was amended and the majority of the improvements were implemented and the organisation has now continued to grow and prosper.
The sensitive issues were handled in a professional manner and have now been addressed.
