Borough Council consultation on new political structures
A Borough Council was considering modernising the way it works by moving from an old style committee based system of decision making to an ‘executive model’. Spirals were commissioned to work with the Council to develop mechanisms to ensure that local people could understand the issues and have their say.
Spirals developed a consultation document that explored and answered the sorts of questions local people would want to ask so that they could contribute to the debate. Spirals also facilitated a “town hall” meeting giving an impartial briefing on the issues and answering questions from the floor.
This meeting was well attended and was also webcast by the Council.
As a result of the public consultation and overwhelming public opinion the Council has decided not to pursue the proposals.
