Workforce Development of the Sports Professional and Capacity Building of Sports Clubs
Objective – Spirals were commissioned by the Sports Development Partnership to design and deliver a programme of learning to develop the sports development professionals in their management and personal effectiveness skills and to build the capacity of sports clubs through a programme of learning initiatives.
Engagement – Spirals worked with the Sports Development Partnership to identify a series of learning initiatives that would have the greatest impact on the development of the sports development workforce and the capacity of the clubs.
Phasing – The information for the programme was identified through a research and mapping exercise that identified the learning opportunities available and the needs of the sector.
The resulting programme consisted of two streams, a series of full day workshops for the professionals covering areas such a project management, finance and resource management, presentation skills and time management.
The second stream were evening workshops designed to equip club staff and volunteers, looking at topics such as 'marketing your club', 'using the web', 'effective chairing' and 'secretary skills and minute taking'.
Result – Sports development professionals from a wide range of organisations have developed their management and personal effectiveness skills, enabling them to develop sport and coaching more effectively. On top of this, many new skills have been developed by club volunteers and staff, something that will enable clubs to flourish and further improve the development of sport in the area. Ref: 000165
