Spirals commissioned to develop and deliver training and development programme for town and parish councils
8th October 2009
In the context of local authorities’ increasing “duty to involve”, Spirals have been commissioned by a district council in Norfolk to develop and deliver a training and development programme for parish and town councils to be delivered throughout Autumn. This programme consists of a series of ten workshops with the overall theme of “Creating and Maintaining Sustainable Communities.
Spirals are working with colleagues from a number of partner organisations including Broadland Council, Norfolk County Council, the Environment Agency, the University of East Anglia (Low Carbon Innovation Centre), and the Rural Community Council to ensure that each workshop includes contributions from experts in each of the subject areas.
The topics for the ten workshops are:
Workshop One – What Makes a Community?
Workshop Two – What is the Growth Agenda?
Workshop Three – Introduction to the Planning System
Workshop Four – Introduction to Housing
Workshop Five – Involving Our Communities
Workshop Six – The Environment.
Workshop Seven – Transport.
Workshop Eight – Dealing with Conflict in the Community.
Workshop Nine – Social and Cultural Issues.
Workshop Ten – Sustainable Communities – Bringing it all together.
This final workshop will develop a framework action plan for all participating councils to adopt to help them provide leadership and direction to create and maintain sustainable communities.
Spirals will gather feedback to evaluate the programme as it goes along and the results will be aggregated into a final report which will contain key findings from the workshops for Broadland to consider.
